I didn't think this recipe would work. Truly, I abhor recipes that call for pre-made crescent rolls. I feel like it's cheating. However, I have an almost 5 year old and never enough time to make homemade crescents so, I relented and looked up cheater cannolis and... they are delicious! I usually have to bribe my son to try new foods but he took to this right away... (It might have something to do with the chocolate inside...)!
I used Annie's Organic Crescent Rolls. After nearly stopping your heart when the tube pops open, ( be honest, it's terrifying!), roll them out on a cutting board, keeping two triangle together to form a rectangle. Pinch the seam together, gently. It will open while baking and that's a good thing!
In a small bowl, combine cream cheese with powdered sugar to make a sweet cream paste. Spread this on each rectangle making sure to cover it completely. I did a fairly thin layer because I was low on cream cheese but I'm sure it would just as decedent with a thicker layer. Now, for the chocolate! I only put in 4 chocolate chips because to much sugar makes my son a little crazy however, again, adding more is definitely encouraged!
If you like really rich pastry, brush your cannolis with melted butter.
(I was short on time... my son was "starving to death.")
Bake at 350 degrees F for 12- 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Remove and cool for... as long as you can manage not to eat them. :)
Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy!
