The last day of kindergarten...
Today was beautiful. The sun was out, smiling on our little girl, as she "flew" under the rainbow bridge into the welcoming arms of the new first grade class. My husband and I, (while, of course, taking pictures) had streams of tears running down our cheeks. She's growing up. It's wonderful and it sucks. Like every Momma before me, I wish I could swaddle her and keep her my little rosy cheeked baby forever but I'm so extremely proud of the amazing, loving, hippy child she's turning into. And while she did have a loving welcome into the first grade, she will not be seeing them this fall. Our path has changed, again, and we couldn't be happier about it. (More on that later.) So, with lots of, "I love you" and "I'll miss you so much," we said goodbye to Alice's class, teachers, and school. It was a beautiful day.
Today was hard. The sun beat down on me as I watched, with a happy, but also a bit saddened, heart the children of my Kinder Enrichment class "fly" under the rainbow bridge into the arms of their new first grade class. We had many joy filled moments this semester, many thoughtful talks, and many shared memories were made. I came to know each of the 15 students in our class and have loved them each. While not every day was an easy one, I am more that grateful for all of them. I have learned so much about myself while teaching them how to be still, sit in mindful silence, and to consider those around them. The simple act of eating for 2 minutes without talking can be hard for even me. :) I will be leaving a piece of my heart behind as we embark on our journey this year.
A few words to the children of our class:
To the Amazing Artist: You have inspired me so much this year. Thank you! Watching you grow and embrace your artistic talents has truly helped me to embrace mine.
To the Healer: I have never known a 6 year old to be so in tune with the needs of others. I am awed by you. I would not be at all surprised to learn you have become a doctor or paramedic when you are grown.
To the Strong Leader: I see so many good things for you. May you always make the good choices, for if you do you will find your path always clear.
To the Wild Flower: I have adored your smile so much. Even when you're terribly ill, you always have a positive attitude. Thank you for that. I can't wait to see the beautiful person you grow up to be.
To the Beautiful Soul: You are truly beautiful, outside and in. Remember to tell yourself how wonderful you are. Don't let others bring you down. Surround yourself with those who see you as you are, beautiful.
To the Helpful Heart: Thank you for every hug, every smile, and every moment you helped me start the day. I looked forward to it. :) You have been a blessing to me.
To the Strong Spirit: You are so very smart and you have such a big personality. I could see you becoming a senator in the future.
To the one Filled With Love: You are such a good story teller and a wonderful entertainer. Your sandwiches could become a new "gourmet" trend!
To the Fierce Leader: You are so strong and passionate. I have seen both your lioness and your lamb. Always remember to use kindness first and if that doesn't work, go ahead and ROAR!
To the Kind Hearted: I am so grateful to have gotten to know you. Even on your hard days, you are always kind and always a good friend. I watched your eyes light up when you're excited and your smile grow. Thank you, kind heart, for my lady bugs.
To the Clever Imp: Every time I think of you, I think of Huckleberry Finn. You are so smart and so brave! Just remember, Tom Sawyer doesn't always have the best ideas.
To the Spirited Nymph: Your bubbly personality is infectious. It is impossible to have a bad day when you are near.
To the Keen Eye: You are a tough little cookie with a tender side. Your sharp eye helps you spot when others need reminding of the rules. Like or Fierce Leader, remember to use kind words first and others will follow you.
To the Tender Heart: I have loved your cuddles! You always have great hugs and wonderful smiles for me. You are going to be such a shining star as you grow.
To the Free Spirit: There is so much untapped love in you. I could see it in your eyes. You have grown so much this semester. Share more love with those around you and they will give it back 100 times over.
I hope to see you all in the future! I will miss you all so much!
